5 Key elements to avoid catering DISASTERS at your wedding!

Ditch the stress, enjoy your guests! Planning your wedding catering can be an overwhelming task if you have never organized food for a crowd before (most wedding couples haven’t).

Let our experience and knowledge guide you through the process.

1. Keep the menu simple – It’s easy to get caught up in trying offer something for everyone at your wedding; with many food allergies, sensitivities, dietary restrictions it’s easy to get lost in menu planning and forget that it’s actually YOUR day.

The truth is, most people are not going to go hungry, they will find something on a buffet that they can eat. So base your menu on food you and your fiancé like, offer some reasonable alternatives, and the rest will work itself out

2. Appetizers are the Cocktail hours best friend! While you are whisked away post ceremony for pictures, guests quickly take a turn for the hangry.

Don’t let ravenous guests wipe out your buffet because their eyes are bigger than their stomachs. When guests go too long without eating, they are more likely to take large portions that tend to end up in the trash.

3. Don’t leave cake cutting to an amateur – wedding cakes are intricately constructed with many layers of supports, and need to be disassembled and cut correctly to get the right amount of servings for your guests. Not to mention the laborious and tedious task of passing the cake out to all the guests in a timely manner. This can really throw off your well thought out timeline.

For a more casual event, consider cupcakes for the guests and a small cake for cutting.

4. Know what accommodations your venue has for caterers (before choosing your menu). Wedding couples are faced with many options when it comes to your venue and the style of reception. Venues vary from having full catering kitchens, to the only water source being from a garden hose.

If your venue doesn’t have accommodations for your caterer, the menu they can provide may be limited. Help us help you!

5. Do I really need staff? My friends want to help! – When you see the price tag for staffing at your wedding, you may think “do I really need this?”. A large portion of your wedding budget goes to the food, and you want to make sure your investment is protected.

Here are some factors to consider if you forgo having catering staff – How will I keep the food hot? Who will make sure food gets served on time? Who will switch out the pans of food when they are empty? What if we run out of plates? A buffet for a large crowd needs a closely trained eye to stay on top of keeping food from running out, holding up the line, and dealing with any other issues that may come up.

Our staff keeps an arsenal of back up equipment to manage unforeseen disasters. If you have more than 80 guests, having trained staff whose only job is to manage the food is money well spent. And… Food service is messy business; do you really want your friends and family who are in fancy attire to ruin their clothes?
